Dynamic Role at Vreugdenhil
Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods processes over one billion kilograms of milk annually into high-quality nutritional products and ingredients, which we export to 130 countries. The family business, founded in 1954, celebrated its 70th anniversary last year. Peter Beemsterboer has been working here for seven months, which makes it relatively new for him, although he has previously worked for various companies in the food industry. “It’s a dynamic sector in which I enjoy operating. From the very first moment, I felt welcome at this family business—it’s like a warm bath.”
A lot is happening in the dairy sector. Whereas in the past you might come across an article about the agricultural sector once a month, nowadays you find daily coverage of this industry in the news. “As COO (Chief Operations Officer), I am fortunate to be involved in the entire chain, from suppliers to our customers. I can apply the knowledge and experience I’ve gained in previous roles to my work here.”
Long term
The company has grown enormously over the years. In the 2000s, revenue was around 50 million euros; now, it exceeds one billion. The compony employs approximately six hundred people. Vreugdenhil is now the third-largest dairy company in the Netherlands. And yet, the family business’s values have remained intact. Many employees have been with the company for years and have grown along with the company. The focus here is more on the long term, with continuous investment in the future.
Wide range of products
Vreugdenhil specializes in milk powder and offer a wide range of products. “Think of whole and skimmed milk powders, fat-filled powders, goat milk powder, cream powder, and various blends with milk powder and, for example, whey derivatives. These products are used in bakeries, dairy, confectionery, chocolate, and soups and sauces. Our products are also used as ingredients in infant formula, medical nutrition, and sports nutrition. Additionally, we produce organic milk powders.”
Innovation and sustainability
In terms of innovation and sustainability, the company collaberates with various partners, not only with suppliers but also with customers. “For example, with Nestlé, we run the Tomorrow’s Dairy program, which actively supports our Dutch dairy farmers in reducing their operational footprint. When the program started in 2022, 17 farmers participated; this year, the number has grown to 150. Participants are rewarded for achieving reduction results.”
Exploring the future
Currently, Vreugdenhil is fully focused on exploring its future. “There are several areas in which we can further develop as a company. Last year, we established a revised strategy. Now, it’s about determining how the organization should be structured to achieve these goals.”
IFFI membership
Recently, Vreugdenhil became a member of IFFI, the network for the ingredients industry. This membership offers various benefits. “It connects us with other companies facing similar questions and challenges, from which we may learn. It could also lead to partnerships. IFFI is focused on innovation, which resonates strongly with us. I’m curious to see what this membership will bring us!”
